Fireside Chats
Come celebrate D’Youville College’s 100th Anniversary with some of your favorite professors!
As part of our year-long centennial celebration, D’Youville will be hosting a series of informal conversations, or “Fireside Chats,” from January 2008 until March 2009, highlighting the history of the College through personal recollections. This ongoing event will bring together several past and present faculty and staff from various departments to reminisce and reflect on D’Youville’s mission through the years while also exploring new ideas for the future. Here is your chance to wax nostalgic with old friends and colleagues, and enjoy wine and cheese, as members of the D’Youville College community come together to share their memories, and even a few photographs, and consider the changes they have experienced over the years.
The first of the Fireside Chats will begin on January 31, 2008, featuring the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, as Sister Denise Roche, Sister Mary Charlotte Barton, and Sister Mary Brendan Connors inaugurate the centennial celebration. Other speakers will include Verna Kieffer, Pat Bahn, Carole Gutt, Dawn Williams, and Paul Hageman from the Nursing Department and Holistic Health Studies on February 21st, followed by John Abbarno, Paul Johnson, and Robert Nielsen from the Liberal Arts Department on March 13th.
When the new semester begins in September 2008, a new round of Fireside Chats will commence with History professors Joseph Grande and David Kelly sharing their experiences on September 18, 2008, followed by Sheila Dunn, Jamie DeWaters, and Glen McClary from the Education Department on October 23rd, and Jerome Kresse and Ted Hart from Math and Natural Sciences on November 13, 2008.
On February 26, 2009, Kushnood Haq, Joseph Fennel, and Judith Schiffert from the Business Department and Health Services Administration will come together to share their thoughts. Rounding out the program on March 26, 2009, will be faculty from the Allied Health professions of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Dietetics, including Roger Fiedler, Lynn Rivers, Merlene Gingher, Maureen Finney, and Charlotte Baumgart.
So mark your calendar and join us for this unique opportunity to reminisce about the past, share your thoughts on the present, and collectively prepare a vision for the future as we embark on an exciting new century here at D’Youville College.
